Solutions Spotlight: National Nutrition Month at Stop and Shop

This year for National Nutrition Month, Stop & Shop invited a group of Boston-based food, nutrition and mom bloggers to take part in a cooking class focused around “Enjoy the Taste of Eating Right.” The event, titled “Healthy Cooking 101: Spice Up your Kitchen with Stop & Shop” was held at Boston University’s Metropolitan College, and was hosted by Stop & Shop’s in-store nutritionist Julie Menounos, MS, RD, LDN and Chef Jeremy Sewall, executive chef and owner of several renowned Boston restaurants.  The intimate setting gave bloggers the unique opportunity to rub elbows (and blanche asparagus!) with a James Beard award nominee, and learn tips and tricks to healthfully flavor and add nutrients to their family’s meals. They also were able to engage their social followers with tips and photos before, during and after the event using the hashtags #healthyideas and #NNM.

The recipes featured a variety of spices, herbs, nuts, fruit and vegetables that added flavor to the dishes while keeping the sodium, sugar, calorie and saturated fat content to a minimum. From a salad drizzled with a toasted spice vinaigrette to slow roasted salmon with barley and fennel, even down to the dessert of mango pops with cardamom,  each menu item had a unique flavor and healthy flare. The bloggers left the class inspired to try healthy new recipes and share them with their family and friends.
