RDBA Cooks Up Business Skills and Trends with ShopRite Dietitians
RDBA hit the road last week, traveling to Edison, New Jersey for our first onsite educational symposium for retail dietitians. This half-day training for ShopRite retail dietitians featured educational presentations and networking at Wakefern’s headquarters. Over fifty ShopRite retail dietitians and corporate dietitians were in attendance and several participated via video conference.
“We were thrilled to have the opportunity to meet face to face with ShopRite’s retail dietitians,” said Lempert. “This effort is perfectly in line with RDBA’s mission to support retail RD business education and career development.”
Working with Natalie Menza, RD, Manager of Health and Wellness for Wakefern Food Corp., RDBA designed a symposium tailored for ShopRite’s retail dietitians and featuring business-focused presentations delivered by RDBA staff, including:
- Maximizing Internal and External Partnerships, Annette Maggi, MS, RD, LD, FADA (RDBA Executive Director)
- How to Advocate for Health and Wellness in Your Store, Allison Beadle, MS, RD, LD (RDBA Weekly Editor)
- 2014 Retail Trends, Phil Lempert (RDBA CEO)
The symposium was sponsored by ConAgra, who provided lunch and a presentation on food myths and media skills by Tara Gidus, MS, RD, CSSD, LD/N.
"The workshop was excellent—even better than we expected,” said Menza. “ShopRite's retail dietitians were so excited and eager to get back and start implementing what they learned."
ShopRite’s retail dietitian program has expanded rapidly over the past several years with more than sixty stores now covered by a dietitian. Each dietitian reports directly to the individual store owner and works with Wakefern corporate dietitians on joint programs.
RDBA’s unique onsite symposium model allows retail dietitians to receive top-quality continuing education tailored to their specific career needs while minimizing expenses and time away from the office or store.
“RDBA is planning additional onsite retail dietitian symposia in 2014,” said Lempert. “We look forward to supporting the success of many more retail dietitians by bringing customized educational programs to retail dietitians across the country.”
