Understanding the many benefits of live training, RDBA is thrilled to announce we’re bringing our message to you at this fall’s Food & Nutrition Conference & Exposition in Houston, TX.  Through a partnership with the Food & Culinary Professionals (FCP) Dietetic Practice Group (DPG), we’re hosting a pre-FNCE workshop on Saturday, October 19th from 8:30-3:00 titled Game Changers:  Gaining Business Savvy and Retail Industry Know-How.  Targeted for dietitians currently working within or interested in a career change to the retail grocery industry, the workshop will include the following sessions:

Retail 101: The Supermarket Guru Phil Lempert will share an overview of the retail industry, addressing how retail makes money, metrics that retailers measure, key functions in retail, large vs. independent vs. family owned operations, key retail terms, and future retail trends.

Economics of the Supply Chain: To build successful retail programs, it’s essential to understand the various steps of the food supply chain and the economies across the entire process.  Building on Retail 101, this session takes a step back to consider the entire food supply chain, from farm to producer to manufacturer to retailer.   The relationships and economic inputs between each step will be discussed as will the implications of changing weather conditions, the global economic situation and new regulations.

Company-Wide RD Integration: Driving successful health and wellness initiatives requires partnerships with multiple functions within the retail company, including buying, marketing, merchandising, operations, and even the CEO.   This session lays out the process for building internal partnerships to drive health and wellness initiatives and leveraging vendor resources to gain support of programs and promotions.

Creating your Professional Brand: Driving success in the business world requires that you have a unique and professional brand.  This session will help attendees understand the importance of personal branding, how to think outside the retail RD box to develop an effective personal brand, the importance of an elevator speech, and roles of mentors vs. sponsors in personal brand development.

Strategic Planning Template: A sure fire way to rise in the ranks is to show strong leadership skills.  In this session, attendees will understand the step-by-step process to developing a strategic plan for their health and wellness initiatives as well as the importance of selling it in to senior leadership of your retailer.  This session is supported and presented by Ketchum Public Relations.
