Retail Dietitian Profiles

I provide free nutrition services for shoppers, associates, and members of the community. My day-to-day tasks include diet counseling, cooking demonstrations, supermarket tours, hosting or attending health and wellness events, and conducting nutrition workshops. For me, every day is a new opportunity to educate our shoppers about making healthier food choices. 

When I started working in the grocery industry in 1990 there were only a few dietitians employed in supermarkets. I was pretty much at a loss but am very thankful for a handful of individuals who shared their knowledge, helped me navigate the retail waters, and motivated me in my new role. Jane Andrews from Wegmans was one of those dietitians.

I am the first retail dietitian at the ShopRite of Daleville. In this role, I answer customer questions regarding their nutritional needs, educate shoppers about reading labels and assist them in making healthy food choices.

I work in many different capacities within the store.  I host nutrition focused chef/dietitian cooking classes and support the pharmacy with any nutrition-related advice or questions their customers have.

"I have always loved visiting grocery stores and seeing new products on the shelves.  When I learned that dietitians were working in stores, I knew it was the position I wanted to achieve in my dietetics career."

Currently I work as a Category Manager for Retail Nutrition Solutions, managing our retail dietitians in our five regions, consulting on product development projects for the Kroger brand, and working with our meal kit team to provide Dietitian Pick options.

Working with sick people made me realize the importance of food and nutrition as medicine.

I started with Schnucks in 2012, creating an in-store nutrition program in one store as a test concept.  In this role, I partnered with merchants and buyers to source healthier products, started a celiac support group, sought to engage customers in new ways through in-store nutrition events, and worked on company-wide nutrition marketing programs.

My role is to provide nutrition education, promote wellness for the associates, and keep our Dietitians Choice program updated.
