Family Meals Month – Still Time for Activation
Promoting family meals is a win, win, win. The consumer wins as eating family meals has health, emotional and social benefits for all involved. Your retailer wins as focus on meals at home can mean higher dollar sales at retail. You, as the retail RD win, as programs offered during Family Meals Month provide a great opportunity to track and communicate ROI.
The Food Marketing Institute (FMI) has the following updates to share on Family Meals Month:
- FMI members from across the country are showing their support by promoting National Family Meals Month this September. In fact, campaign hashtags are popping up all over social media. Engage in the dialogue at #FamilyMealsMonth and #RaiseYourMitt.
- If you’re participating in National Family Meals Month, tell FMI about it using their simple, online form available at www.fmi.org. Their public relations department will use the information and materials you provide to help spread the word to media outlets and tell the story of our industry's month-long efforts. FMI has launched a consumer website in support of the campaign. View this new website at www.NationalFamilyMealsMonth.org. Consider linking to this site from your Twitter and Facebook pages or from a blog you may write on Family Meals Month.
There’s still plenty of time for activation of Family Meals Month at your retailer. Consider pitching the media on an idea of balanced plate meals centered on options in your deli or prepared food sections. In store tours and demos, add talking points on the benefits of family meal time. Use social media to promote how families can spend more time together at the dinner table.
