Are you getting excited about attending the CMA|SIMA 2023 Annual Conference in Las Vegas, enjoying luxurious accommodations and amenities at Caesars Palace (you deserve it!), and taking advantage of networking with nearly 1000 conference attendees and over 200 companies? We are excited for you because we see limitless potential for the impact the retail dietitian profession is having on the retail food industry. Over the next three weeks we will share a curated collection of workshops, keynotes and breakouts by day that we believe our RD community will find great value in attending.

Before we cover these exciting events on this year’s agenda, a quick note! This conference is brimming with networking opportunities, and we want to help our RDBA members take full advantage. If you are planning to attend, we invite you to directly email Stephanie.Schultz@catman.global, RD Ambassador to the RDBA and VP at the Association of Retail and Consumer Professionals, so she can help make meaningful connections for you. And see the bottom of this article for information on registration discounts for our members!

Here are our recommendations for DAY ONE at “Activating Insights for a Dynamic Future”:

WORKSHOP: Storytelling with Data | Kraft Heinz & The Presentation Company
Data Storytelling is an essential skill retail dietitians need in order to effectively communicate datasets through narratives and visualization. Amplify your ability to connect with customers and associates by learning from expert Hasan Issa, Advisor, Category Leadership, Kraft Heinz, who since 2021 has built relationships with Customer Teams to ensure that Kraft Heinz grows through mutually beneficial strategies by understanding consumers, market shelving, and assortment opportunities. Storytelling has become a crucial part of his success in this arena, and outside of his business work, he spends time hosting workshops and mentoring peers in developing this skill. You will also learn from Janine Kurnoff, Co-founder and Chief Innovation Officer, The Presentation Company, who is the visionary behind award-winning storytelling and visualization workshops. Bring your talent and ideas to this workshop and learn how to incorporate your data into influential messaging and strategies.

WORKSHOP: Space Planning for Non-Space Professionals
Space planning is all about determining where and how to place merchandise to increase sales or to reach specific goals related to company goals and values such as health and wellness and sustainability. Many who have joined the emerging career of retail dietitian find that they don’t want to limit their opportunities by being defined solely as a “dietitian.” Join Flora Delaney, President, Delaney Consulting and learn all about how she helps small and large retailers rediscover what makes them successful. Armed already with shopper insights and research, RDs are positioned to find many opportunities in this field.

KEYNOTE: Andrew Bush, Economic Futurist, AndrewBush.com
Have you ever wondered how complicated data and information on economy and markets is filtered into easily understood information for the public? Let’s face it — not everyone is an economist! But Andrew Bush, Economic Futurist at AndrewBush.com has built a career in condensing information and communicating it effectively to others. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear Andrew share what he has learned in his experience consulting clients in a broad range of industries.

KEYNOTE: Fireside Chat with Robert Bunchek, VP Strategic Planning, Intelligence and Implementation
Competitive Intelligence is a fascinating field and an arena where RDs are poised to succeed! Join in this Fireside Chat with Robert Bunchek, VP Strategic Planning, Intelligence and Implementation, Target, to learn more about the collection and analysis of data that can be used to gain insights into the retail space. Retailers can make more informed strategic business decision by harnessing this skill that leads to results in their stores.

BREAK OUT SESSION: The State of Retail & eCommerce: Shifts in Online and In-Store Consumer Behavior
According to recent industry projections, online purchases in the U.S. are expected to reach nearly 21%. Claire Tassin is the retail and e-commerce analyst at global decision intelligence company, Morning Consult, where she conducts research, authors analyst notes, and advises clients on emerging consumer shopping trends. If you are looking to explore the future of eCommerce and the opportunities this channel has to offer, this session is for you!

BREAK OUT SESSION: Learning from Natural Channel Data & Trends to Drive Innovation
Are you inspired to lean into the Natural Channel which covers sales of natural, organic and specialty products and includes co-ops, associations, independents, and large retail chains?
