According to the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA), sugar sweetened beverages like soda, energy drinks, and sports drinks are the fourth highest contributor of daily calories for consumers age two and older. Key recommendations in the DGAs are to reduce added sugars, including those from beverages, and to choose drinks with high nutrition quality.
To assist retailers and health professionals in managing this important category of products, a new conference dedicated specifically to drinks -- the Healthy Beverage Expo(please attach link: http://healthybeverageexpo.com/) -- will host their inaugural meeting from June 7-9 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Sessions will cover key topics including sustainability in beverages, the science behind regulatory claims, hydration, and culinary trends. The expo hall will be filled with the latest and greatest in healthy beverage options.
Here’s the good news. The founders of the conference are offering an all-expense paid trip (airfare, hotel, registration) for five RDBA members who are employed part- or full-time by a grocery retailer. If you are interested in being considered for this opportunity, send your name, credentials, retail company, and location to Annette Maggi, RDBA Executive Director at firstname.lastname@example.org by Monday, April 29th. Applications will be reviewed, and winners notified by Monday, May 6th.
Additionally, all RDBA members get free event registration. Click here to download the special form for complimentary exhibit hall registration and discounted sessions.
