2022 Retail RD of the Year: Mandy Katz, MS, RD,CSP, LDN, Manager of Healthy Living at Giant Food
Last week at the Virtual Experience, the Retail Dietitians Business Alliance announced the recipient of this year’s Retail RD of the Year Award. Mandy Katz, the winner, is a Manger of Healthy Living at Giant Food.
As acknowledgement of why she is winning this award, Mandy has a breadth of responsibilities in her role focused on the execution of Giant's Healthy Living strategy including oversight of the community dietitians. Mandy manages an extensive portfolio of communication channels including online classes, in-store radio, mailers, email, eComm landing pages, Savory magazine, and the team's social media and serves as the strategic lead and host of their Healthy Living by Giant! podcast. Mandy works closely with partners include store operations, merchandising and marketing teams to embed healthy living in cross-functional business initiatives and partners with the Community Relations team to ensure healthy living is included in community giving. She serves as a company spokesperson and uses her background in PR and marketing to lead media training for their team of ten dietitians. She partners with merchandising, eCommerce, and shopper marketing teams to drive Healthy Food Sales and support the commercial plan through the lens of healthy living.
Mandy is often described by her colleagues as a trailblazer as well as an individual who goes above and beyond at work. For example, Mandy serves as the Continuous Improvement Chair on Giant's Women's Inclusion Network (WIN) Business Resource Group. In her role, Mandy developed a new job shadowing program called JOBSHINE, an opportunity for associates across the organization to gain insight into their current role or explore future roles. It "shines" a light on workflow and areas that can improve productivity and foster innovation. This is just one way that Mandy is making connections across the business and showing the value that the Healthy Living Team and retail dietitians bring - building bridges, contributing to innovation, and ultimately supporting the bottom line.
